FLINT TWP., MI – They’re giving away $1,000 in cash, as well as a dozen $100 shopping sprees and even $10 gift cards for the first 100 shoppers.

The Shoe Carnival opened a new Flint Township location on Friday, Nov. 1, at 3192 S. Linden Rd., and the store will host its hard grand opening Saturday, Nov. 9 where the prizes will be given out.

Dan Ramalia, the general manager for the new store, has been with Shoe Carnival for six years. He said there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the company’s relocation back to the area.

“It was a lot of fun getting everything opened here. It was nice to talk to a lot of different customers who had heard of us before around the region who had a chance to come into this store here,” he said.

“Shoe Carnival is coming back into the Southeast Michigan area because we think there is room for us here and we think it’s a great area for us to do business.”

The store will have its ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, where the Flint Township supervisor and the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will be on hand, followed by a VIP event Thursday evening for a shopping party for local business leaders.

But that’s just a precursor to the big weekend event, Ramalia said.

“Saturday, starting at 8 a.m., we’re hoping to have lines wrapped around the building. The first hundred customers who are 18-and-up will each get a $10 gift card, then every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. we’re doing giveaways of everything from shoes for a year, $1,000 in cash and $100 shopping sprees,” he said.

The $100 giveaways will be given away at the top of each hour from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9-10.

Shoe Carnival’s presence in the region dwindled in the past, but Ramalia said this is the start of what could be a resurgence in the area.

“It could be an area with a lot of growth within the next few years here. There’s always talk about new stores coming to the area. I’ve been hearing a lot of that speculation around the Detroit area and I think it would be great there, too, and I’m glad to be a part of it,” he said.

“I think there’s this great opportunity here for business. It seems like Flint itself is really starting to turn around. You see more and more businesses coming to the area. Even looking at Miller Road, there’s just not a lot of real estate available anymore and it’s just something that Shoe Carnival really wanted to be a part of.”

The Shoe Carnival shopping experience offers surprising values on name brand shoes like Nike, Skechers, Polo, Bearpaw, Timberland, Nunn Bush and many more.

Todd Beurman, the company’s senior vice president of marketing, said the wide selection is one thing that sets Shoe Carnival apart from other stores, and that the company is happy to be in the Flint area.

“We are excited to be opening a new store location in Oak Brook Square and bringing our customers a new spacious and inviting Shoe Carnival shopping experience,” Beurman said.

“At Shoe Carnival, our customers will find a fun shopping experience, huge selection, and a great value on name brand footwear and accessories for the entire family that is sure to thrill them.”

The store currently employs 30 people, but Ramalia said that number would cut back to about 15-20, as some of the workers were temporarily added to complete setup and get the store prepared for its Nov. 1 opening date.

Store hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
